WORLDWIDE LASER INSTITUTE GOES TO LONDON, ENGLAND!

Apr 14, 2015

Worldwide Laser Institute conducted its first course in the United Kingdom. The event titled NEEDLING AND LIGHT FOR HYPERPIGMENTATION & SCARS took place at the Cavendish Centre in London for the BACN (British Association of Cosmetic Nurses). This was an extensive 8 hour COMBINATION COURSE reviewing the basics of skin anatomy, skin physiology, an skin typing by Dr. Martin Kassir. The basics of microneedling and its effects on skin were reviewed by Dr. Lance Setterfield, author of the Concise Guide To Dermal Needling. Dr. Martin Kassir subsequently reviewed basic laser physics and light-tissue interactions along with the physiology of the melanocyte, the source of pigment production. Laser and light sources such as IPL (Intense Pullsed Light) that could be efficacious in treating hyperpigmentation were reviewed. Dr. Setterfield extensively reviewed clinical applications of needling and how this procedure could be beneficial for pigmentary issues and for scarring. Both speakers reviewed potential pitfalls and complications that may result from these procedures, especially with inadequate training and use of the wrong devices. The BACN nurse were quite interactive and there were many in depth question and answer sessions to further clarify fine points for treating these conditions.
